Craftsmanship Rules

If you would like to participate in the Genki Craftsmanship Competition, then read the rules thoroughly and fill out the application form before the deadline. There are a limited number of spots available for the competition, so send in your application as soon as possible!

An announcement will be made when all spots have been filled; additional applicants will be put on a waiting list.

If you have questions, please contact the cosplay team via the contact form on our main page.

GENERAL

  • The Craftsmanship Competition is made up of two parts; an off-stage judge evaluation and an on-stage catwalk or performance.
    • Participants are expected to talk about their costume and work process in English at the judge evaluation.
    • Each participant is given up to two minutes stage time for their performance/catwalk, not including 30 seconds to get on and off stage, respectively.
  • Participating for a spot at the NCC, CWM, and/or ICL finals is entirely optional. Please note, however, that winners of the NCC, CWM or ICL selections cannot also win additional categories.
    • NB! It is required to do a performance, if competing for a spot at the NCC or CWM. Only doing a catwalk is not permitted.
    • NB! If you are competing for a spot at the ICL, doing a performance is only required if you’re also competing for NCC or CWM. Your performance will not influence your chances for the ICL in any way, and you will be asked to do a catwalk after the performances are over.
  • Reference pictures of the character and costume you wish to participate as must be submitted together with the application for the Craftsmanship Competition. Remember to choose a picture that shows as much of the costume as possible.
  • All participants must submit at least one (1) progress picture with the application. Progress pictures are pictures of the costume in production.
  • Participants will receive an online folder to post additional progress pictures and a detailed description of the costume to the judges in English. This will help you get around your entire costume at the judging.

COSTUMES AND PROPS

  • Costumes must be self-made and modelled by the participant; they are, however, allowed to purchase certain elements (shoes, wig, and so on).
  • Participants may only participate using official designs of characters from a given anime, manga, video game, comic, TV-series, movie or cartoon. This includes versions and illustrations printed in official art and databooks (e.g. Sakizo).
  • Participants are not allowed to participate in fan-art inspired costumes or costumes of their own design. This applies to all categories.
  • Participants are not allowed to participate in the Craftsmanship Competition with a previously prize winning costume, not including Genki’s own Cosplay Show the day before.

Props

  • The Danish weapon law is applicable at all times.
  • Props brought onto the scene may not be made of metal.
  • Props brought onto the stage may not be sharp or be a danger to others.
  • Props brought onto the scene may not be longer than 3 meters. If the prop is longer than the specified, please contact the Cosplay team for approval.
  • Stage props are permitted, but limited to what the participant can set up themselves in 30 seconds, and must be brought to the pre-judging.
